the alarm goes off,
you fumble for silence, and roll out of bed

as you dress and call for the dog,
part of you wishes you’re asleep instead

but then as you wander in early morning dark
being pulled by a beast eager to get to the park

you suddenly find yourself standing in the wet grass, as the sunlight grows, and glows and your face rises to meet the light;
